I am thinking about a little different slant on Thanksgiving this year.  Normally, I think about all the wonderful things that I am grateful for:  my family, my relationship with God and living in America at a time when so much opportunity abounds.  I am still very grateful for all those things and many more.

For some reason the past few days I have been thinking how grateful I am for all the “bad” things that have happened in my life.  You start to realize that without challenges and trials, you really can’t grow.  Yes, especially those challenges that have happened which at the time seemed like they were insurmountable.  Those challenges are the ones I a truly grateful for today.

You know what I am talking about.  Like giving your all to a job for 7 years and having it all taken away when a new owner “changes” (ie. fires) the old management team.  Or giving your opinion (when asked) in honesty and truth to only have a job taken away.  It’s not that I have ever worked a job that I gave less than 125% of my effort to, but, sometimes people just don’t get it.

I am so happy and grateful for each of the many challenges that I have been presented with.  I am thankful for all the people I have worked for and people I have worked with- every one has taught me a lesson.  Every day as I run my own business now I think about a lessons that I have learned, from experience.  I don’t have to make those mistakes again, I have learned from the past.  I can keep moving forward and life’s experiences keep accruing as I move along.

I have grown.  My mind has been formed and shaped to be different than it would if I had held a single job for the past 35 years.  I have learned many things about may different industries.  I have been blessed with meeting many people “at the right time”.  Finding mentors and teachers that were there just when I needed them.

Thanks for taking time today to remember to say “thanks”.  I learned a lesson or two along the way that really drive home a simple point-  when you are in a state of gratitude, you are also opening yourself up to receive the things you really want.

Happy Thanksgiving!
