It happens… a colleague invites you over to the house for a holiday meal. You ask if you can bring anything and he replies- “just yourself”. You are a good guest so you stop by the store on the way over and pick up a bottle of wine to share with your friends. As you arrive at the dinner, you notice a bunch of cars in the driveway and on the street. What you thought was a small dinner, turns out to be an all out party!
You have a drink of your bottle of wine and see that everyone is drinking a holiday punch. You try a little and the next thing you know, you are really feeling the everclear that is the base of the punch. A round of shots later, you eat a little food and hope to slow things down. It’s the holidays and it is fun to party with friends.
Next thing you know, it’s time to go home. You think about not driving, as you can barely walk without hanging on to something. You look around the room and everyone has had too much. There is no one that you would want to ride with for sure.
Decision time: Call a cab? Call a Friend? Get a ride with a drunken person? Or, tempt fate and try to drive?
You pull out your phone to look for someone to call- it’s only 2 am, someone has to be awake. Then you see it, a bright pink square with “Lyft” on it. Your friend had sent you an email with a link to get $50 of free rides with the ridesharing company, Lyft. You had downloaded it, just in case.
You push the Lyft app, it confirms where you on the on screen and you request a ride. You see that the driver is 7 minutes away, you check out his photo and see that he is driving a Toyota Prius. You wish your friends goodnight and watch as the car comes up the street. The driver open the passenger door, you slide in and fist bump the driver and off you go to your home. When you arrive home the driver thanks you and offers to help you up the stairs… best of all it was a free, safe ride.
I want you to have a safe and happy holiday. In case I forget to get you a Christmas present… Here’s your link to the Lyft app with $50 credit. Download it now, you never know….
